If baccarat is a game you watch, blackjack is a game you play. Every hand asks you a question, and the answers make a real difference to how long your budget lasts. That is part of the charm, much like deciding whether to take a quick single or hold your ground. The live version adds a human dealer and a proper card shoe on camera. Here is how live blackjack works on Mostplay, what each decision means and which simple habits keep the game enjoyable.

The aim of the game

The short answer: get closer to 21 than the dealer without going over. Number cards count at face value, picture cards count as ten, and an ace counts as one or eleven, whichever helps more. An ace with a ten-value card on the first two cards is a blackjack and usually pays more than an ordinary win.

The dealer plays last and follows fixed rules: drawing below a certain total and standing at or above it. Some tables have the dealer stand on a soft 17, others hit it. That small detail affects your odds, so it is printed on the table or in the rules panel.

Your decisions, one by one

Each hand gives you a short menu. Here is what each option does.

OptionWhat happensTypical moment
HitTake another cardYour total is low and the dealer looks strong
StandKeep your totalYou are safe from going bust and the dealer looks weak
Double downDouble your stake and take exactly one more cardA strong starting total such as 10 or 11
SplitTurn a pair into two separate hands with a second stakeA pair of aces or eights, by common basic strategy
InsuranceA side bet that the dealer has blackjackOffered when the dealer shows an ace; most guides advise skipping it

Basic strategy in plain words

Basic strategy is a chart that shows the mathematically best move for every combination of your hand and the dealer's visible card. It cannot promise a win, because the house still has an edge, but it stops you making the expensive mistakes. A few rules of thumb cover a lot of hands: stand on hard 17 or more, hit hard totals of 11 or less, and treat a dealer's six as a weak card and a ten as a strong one.

Card counting gets a lot of attention in films. On live tables the shoe is usually reshuffled or cut in a way that makes it impractical, and it is not something we suggest trying. Simple, consistent play is more than enough to enjoy the game.

Pace, seats and side bets

Live blackjack tables have a limited number of seats. Some use a format where any number of players share the same starting cards and each makes their own decisions, which keeps waiting to a minimum. Side bets such as pairs or poker-style combinations are common and pay well when they land, but they carry a higher edge than the main game.

A decision timer runs on every hand. If you miss it, the table usually applies a default action such as standing, so it is worth playing at a quiet moment rather than while checking the score on another screen. If you want a game with even fewer choices, try baccarat; for an Indian card classic, see our teen patti guide.

Playing blackjack on Mostplay

Blackjack tables appear in the live casino section of the brand's site and app, which was available in Bengali and English with Taka balances when we checked in November 2026. Table rules, stake ranges and side bets vary, so read the information panel before your first hand. If you are using bonus funds, check whether blackjack counts towards the wagering; our guide to game contribution explains why it often counts less.

Your questions

What does soft 17 mean?

A soft 17 is a total of 17 that includes an ace counted as eleven, such as an ace and a six. Some tables require the dealer to hit it, others to stand. Standing on soft 17 is slightly better for the player, so check which rule the table uses before you play.

Should I take insurance?

Most basic strategy guides advise against it. Insurance is a separate side bet that the dealer has blackjack, and over time it costs more than it returns for a typical player. If you take it occasionally for peace of mind, keep it small and know it is a side bet, not protection.

Does basic strategy mean I will win?

No. It only reduces the house edge to its lowest point for that table's rules. You can play every hand perfectly and still lose a session. Use it to make calm decisions, and keep a firm budget and time limit.

What happens if I miss the decision timer?

On most live tables the game applies a default action, often standing, when the timer runs out. The exact behaviour is described in the table's rules. To avoid surprises, play when you can give each hand your full attention.

Does live blackjack count towards a Mostplay bonus?

It depends on the bonus terms. Many casinos count table games at a reduced rate or exclude them from wagering. We could not confirm Mostplay's current rules, so read the terms of your specific promotion on the brand's promotions page before playing with bonus funds.
